I think this is one of the more excitingly useful features. At first I was like, “damn, it’s only going to be for MSN Spaces” but then I picked “Other.” And, well, here I am, posting from Word…

If you’d like to use Microsoft Word to blog then follow these simple instructions:

  • Go to New, and pick New blog entry
  • Click Register Now to register and setup your blog. Pick your blog type here (Blogger, MSN Spaces) or ‘Other’ if it’s not yet listed.
  • Fill out your blog’s login information:
  • For Wordpress Users: The API is Metaweblog and the URL is http://yourblogname.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php or http://yourblogname.com/xmlrpc.php
  • For LiveJournal Users: The API is Atom and the URL is http://www.livejournal.com/interface/xmlrpc
  • For TypePad Users: The API is Metaweblog and the URL is http://www.typepad.com/t/api
  • Create your blog post, hit Publish, you’re done!

Some things to note:

  • Categories are not yet supported.
  • WordPress will also show an incorrect post date (December 31, 1969).
  • It might look a bit off depending on your blog and it’s styling. I cleaned mine up here. There were a lot of excessive div tags.
  • You can edit existing entries by clicking Open Existing (when publishing, the timestamp is no longer an issue, it works perfectly!).

In any case, I don’t mind using Word for creating longer (drafted) entries. It’s pretty nice to use the new Word interface for blogging. Plus, you can go back and edit old posts, too. Those of you with the Beta can find more information at http://kristab.officeisp.net/picture%20library/blog%20help.mht (opens a local help file).
